Färöer Inseln – Die Insel Streymoy

Streymoy ist die größte Insel der Inselgruppe der Färöer. Auf ihr befindet sich auch die Hauptstadt Tórshavn, mit ihren ca. 12.800 Einwohnern. die Insel ist Richtung Westen mit einem Mauttunnel zur Insel Vágar verbunden, auf der sich der Internationale Flughafen der Färöer befindet. Im Osten verbindet die Insel eine Brücke mit der Insel Eysturoy, auf der sich unsere erste Unterkunft während des Färöer Roadtrips befand.

Streymoy mit dem Auto erkunden

Die Hauptinsel haben wir, wie alle anderen auch, mit unserem Mietwagen erkundet. Um (fast) alle Ecken Streymoys einmal zu sehen haben wir insgesamt 3 Tage, verteilt über unseren Aufenthalt, gebraucht. Los ging’s also an Tag 4 auf den Färöer Inseln. Die vorherigen Tage findet ihr im Artikel über die Insel Eysturoy.

TAG 4 auf den Färöer Inseln

Von unserem Guesthouse in Gjógv haben wir uns aufgemacht und die Brücke nach Streymoy überquert. Dort haben wir einmal die Ostseite der Insel abgefahren und einige gute Fotolocations entdeckt.

Route: ca. 140 km

Fossá – Haldarsvík

Auf dem Weg nach Haldarsvík befindet sich direkt am Straßenrand der höchste Wasserfall der Färöer Inseln. Der Fossá stürzt, wenn wenig Wind, ganze 140 Meter in die Tiefe. Als wir davor standen haben wir nicht gleich erkannt, dass es nun DER Wasserfall sein soll, da er gar nicht so hoch aussah. Tatsächlich fällt der Wasserfall auf zwei Ebenen Richtung Meer (aaah!), was man von der Straße aus nur nicht richtig sehen kann. Bei uns ging dann auch noch so ein starker Wind dass der Fossá größte Mühe hatte überhaupt am Boden anzukommen. Sah aber auch fantastisch aus und hat die Färöer so wiedergespiegelt wie wir sie kennengelernt haben. Windig und schroff 🙂

Tjørnuvík

Nach dem wir zurück über die Leitplanke zum Auto geklettert sind gings die Straße entlang, weiter nach Tjørnuvík. Ein kleines Dorf mit einer, von Bergeketten eingeschlossenen Bucht, die der Surfspot schlecht hin auf den Färöer sein soll. Gesehen haben wir zwar keine Surfer aber das Internet lügt ja bekanntlich nie und wer weiß, vielleicht gibt’s ja tatsächlich einige harte Kerlchen und Kerlinnen die sich in die kalten Wellen stürzen. Außerdem hat man vom Strand aus einen Blick auf Risin und Kelligin am Horizont. Unserer Meinung nach auch der bessere Ausblick als von Eiði aus. Aber seht selbst… ganz ganz hinten könnt ihr die zwei im Meer stehen sehen.

Am Ortsausgang von Tjørnuvík findet sich ein Hinweisschild auf Wikingergräber, dem wir dann natürlich direkt nachgelaufen sind. Dort haben wir  nur zwei zugewachsenen Steine gefunden, die wir ohne das Schild wahrscheinlich nicht mal wahrgenommen hätten. Beim Auskuntschaften dieser ‚Attraktion‘ sind wir dann wohl zu nahe an die Futterstelle einiger Schafe gekommen. Die dann von ÜBERALL her auf uns zugesprinntet kamen. Sorry Schafe, wir habn leider nichts für euch. Upsii…

Saksun

Schon alleine der Weg zum Dörfchen Saksun ist der Hammer. Eine dünne Straße schlängelt sich Kilometerweit durch menschenleeres Land. Rechts und links von uns Bergketten und hin und wieder ein Flusslauf. Wenn man dann die paar Häuschen erreicht die auch schon das ganze Dorf ausmachen steht man schon vor dem ersten Fotomotiv. Die Häuser sind allesamt Moosbewachsen und mit Grasdächern, die im starken Wind herum wehen.

Die Eigentliche ‚Atraktion‘ in Saksun ist aber, das gegenüber vom Dorf liegende, Tal Saksunadalur. Beim Blick in das Tal erkennt man einen vermeintlichen See mit türkisen Wasser der von Bergen umzingelt wird. Der ‚See‘ den man dort sieht ist aber tatsächlich das Meer, nur ist das Becken bei Ebbe vom Meer abgeschnitten. Zum Becken kann man auch wandern, nur müsste man ein paar Kilometer weiter vorne auf eine andere Straße abbiegen. Das konnten wir leider während unserer Reise nicht mehr nachholen können, aber der Ausblick von Oben auf das Tal gibt ja auch einiges her.

TAG 6 auf den Färöer Inseln

Fehlt da nicht Tag 5? Ja, richtig erkannt. Da unsere nächste Unterkunft im Westen der Färöer Inseln lag, haben wir uns entschieden den Rest von Streymoy erst später, von dem neuen AirBnB aus, zu erkunden. Somit haben wir Tag 5 genutzt um die Nordinseln von unserer Unterkunft auf Eysturoy aus zu befahren. Weiter mit der Hauptinsel Streymoy gings also an TAG 6.

Kirkjubøur

Von Gjógv aus sind wir los auf die Insel Streymoy um diesmal die Südhälfte zu erkunden. Erstes Ziel war das Örtchen Kirkjubøur, von dem wir bereits gelesen hatten, dass es wohl sehr malerisch sein sollte. Am Ort angekommen hat man reichlich Parkmöglichkeiten direkt am Meer. Ein Steg mit einem einsamen Bötchen posiert gleich schon für die ersten Fotos. Auserdem findet man hier eines der ältesten Herrenhäuser UND die vermeintlich einzigen Highlandrinder der Färöer Inseln. Wir haben die Möglichkeit auch gleich noch für einen kurzen Drohnenflug genutzt.

Dannach gings für uns weiter auf die Insel Vágar um unsere neue Unterkunft zu beziehen. Wie die aussieht und was es auf Vágar so zu sehen gibt folgt in einem weiteren Artikel.

TAG 9 Auf den Färöer Inseln

Erst an Tag 9 sind wir dann nochmal auf die Insel Streymoy gefahren um uns die Hauptstadt Tórshavn zu besuchen, die wir bisher ausgelassen hatten.

Route: ca. 100km 

Oyggjarvegur

Von Vágar aus gibts zwei Straßen die nach Tórshavn führen. Eine davon ist der Oyggjarvegur. Sie ist bekannt dafür ein landschaftliches Highlight auf der Insel zu sein. Wir haben dann gleich die Chance genutzt und auf der Strecke die Drohne ausgepackt um die tief hängenden Wolken zwischen den Bergketten abzufilmen. Die Strecke geht an einem Berg entlang und lag wegen der Höhe leider die meiste Zeit in den Wolken. Vermutlich haben wir die wirklich schönen Ecken von dem Weg gar nicht gesehen 😉

Torshavn

In Torshávn haben wir uns einen zentrumsnahen Parkplatz gesucht und sind dann in die Stadt gelaufen. Im Sushirestaurant ‚Etika‘ haben wir super lecker (& teuer..) gegessen. Dann haben wir noch nen Spaziergang Richtung Hafen gemacht, vorbei am Cafe Natur und haben uns in einem Souviniershop noch den obligatorischen Kühlschrankmagneten besorgt. Im Anschluss gab’s noch Kaffee und Kuchen und dann ging’s auch schon zurück zum Auto.

Tórshavn hat uns gut gefallen, aber wie ihr merkt liegt unser Fokus eher auf den Landschaften der Länder in die wir reisen, als auf den Städten. Trotzdem statten wir den wichtigen Städten immer einen Besuch ab, und wenns nur ist um gut essen zu gehen. Und das haben wir auf jeden Fall nicht bereut. Tórshavn ist ein schnieckes kleines Städtchen mit einem sehr schönen Hafen.
